I. How to Prepare for an IT Certification Exam In 3 Easy Steps
Â
IT certificates are highly recommended as they will really add a lot of value to your career and your credibility in the IT industry.
Step number 1 :
Pick one good course about the the IT certification exam you want to pass.
My personal preference is for online video courses, so you can control your own schedule of learning and learn at your own pace.
Step number 2 :
You need to take Some Practice exams (these are quizzs or sample exams that are very useful to evaluate yourself and to have an idea on the topics that you need to focus on. So, you need take at minimum 5 practice exams that will help you also to be familiar with the exam taking experience.
Step number 3 :
You need – one week or days days before your exam – to review your entire course (i mean to reread or watch your course entirely ) by focusing on the recurrent topics you have seen in the practice exams questions.
Â
II. Mistakes to Avoid When Preparing for an AWS Certification Exam
Mistake number 1: Following too many courses (more than 2).
This is a huge mistake that I see people make, because you make it difficult for you to pass an exam if you follow multiples courses. It generates for you more effort and more time to dedicate, and you confuse yourself too.
Mistake number 2: Not testing your level and not assessing your knowledge with practice exams, before taking the final real exam.
This is also a huge mistake, because taking only a course about the IT certification you want to get is not sufficient at all to pass successfully the exam.
Mistake number 3: No planning to prepare for the exam and taking too much time to prepare for the exam.
I have seen people spending months and months on preparing for an AWS certification for example. You need to make a plan to prepare for your IT certification exam in maximum 2 months, so everything is fresh in your mind when you are taking the exam.
Â
III. Tips and Tricks on Passing IT Certifications Exams on First Try
Tip number 1: The number 1 tip is to really pick one unique/good online video course about the IT certification exam you want to pass. Search for popular courses on udemy for example and pick ideally 1 and only 1 course. No need to duplicate the effort you need to make by taking 2 or more courses.
Tip number 2 :  You need to be well organized and you need to make a detailed plan of learning/consuming the course : 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours a day…depending on your schedule and your daily routine and responsibilities.
Tip number 3Â : You need to absolutely assess your knowledge with practice exams – again at the minimum take 5 practice exams – so you can evaluate your level of knowledge and readiness before taking the real exam.
Tip number 4 : You need to review your online video course for a second read , and you need to focus on the recurrent topics you found in your practice exams.
Final tip : You can schedule your exam in advance before your second read of your course, so you can be sure that you will be able to secure a slot available for the date that you want to choose as your exam taking date.
